Mark’s career has seen him achieve outstanding success and he has shown a dedication to the Volvo brand that is rarely seen today. Following on from his apprenticeship Mark became a qualified technician, passing his City and Guilds Level 3. Training has always been something Mark has welcomed and he graduated as a Volvo Master Technician in 1995.
An opportunity arose for him to attend the Volvo factory in Gothenburg to be part of the development of the Volvo VIDE diagnostic tool. Mark is proud to have been selected for that experience. Eventually it was inevitable that his prowess in the workshop would lead to promotion first to Service Advisor and then, through more Volvo training, to Assistant Service Manager and to the full Service Manager role.
Mark is not one to blow his own trumpet, but he reflects on his time with Volvo and especially the people he has worked with saying: “I have had a great career so far. I have worked with some brilliant people down the years who have made the job worthwhile. Volvo is an excellent brand to work for. In 40 years there have been so many ground-breaking initiatives from Volvo, but I see the next 10 years as potentially very exciting for the automobile industry and Volvo will be at the fore-front.
“If you had said to me when I was an apprentice that we would have self-drive cars I would have laughed at you. When I started I worked on plugs and points now the technical specs are phenomenal. In a trip down ‘Memory Lane’ I tuned a Volvo P1800 for a friend the other day; that was a car I loved working on.”
Mark continues to train having recently taken his level 3 MOT qualification, maintaining his view that you never stop learning.
Presenting Mark with a specially commissioned watch inscribed ‘Volvo 40 years’, Stuart Paice, Volvo Regional Customer Service Manager, commented: “To show such dedication to Volvo, man and boy is outstanding and Volvo are proud of Mark’s dedication and service to the brand. Whether he is out front dealing with customers or in the workshop advising the technical staff, even getting involved in the practical work on the vehicles, Mark leads by example. He always aims to be positive and proactive and this means the aftersales department at Greenhous Volvo is one of our top performers. Mark has Volvo at heart and always wants to do his best. This reward is well deserved.”
